Ceiling Acoustics

• Acoustic ceiling tiles – An option for compatible ceiling grid systems. Check tile dimensions, edge details and installation requirements against the existing grid.
• Suspended acoustic rafts – Create an overhead acoustic feature above meeting areas, shared desks or collaboration spaces. Their position and suspension height should be coordinated with the room layout.
• Decorative ceiling treatments – Introduce texture, colour or timber-look finishes while providing sound absorption. Review the selected product’s construction and acoustic data alongside its appearance.

Mounting methods and included hardware vary between products. Confirm what is supplied and what your installer will need before ordering.

• Open-plan offices – Add overhead absorption where workstations, windows and storage limit the space available for wall treatment.
• Meeting rooms and boardrooms – Help control reverberation during conversations, presentations and video meetings.
• Breakout areas – Incorporate acoustic treatment above spaces used for informal discussions and shared breaks.
• Training and project rooms – Address reflected sound while keeping walls available for displays, whiteboards and project materials.
• Reception spaces – Integrate sound absorption into the ceiling design while retaining clear circulation routes below.

• Ceiling compatibility – Establish whether the space has a suspended grid, exposed structure or another ceiling construction before selecting a system.
• Acoustic performance – Compare manufacturer test data for the intended mounting arrangement. Thickness or appearance alone does not establish how a system will perform.
• Coverage and spacing – Base quantities on room volume, surface finishes, occupancy and the desired acoustic result. Floor area alone is not enough to determine coverage.
• Building services – Plan around lighting, ventilation, sprinklers, detectors and maintenance access. Have the proposed arrangement checked by the relevant installer or building professional.
• Furniture layout – Coordinate overhead treatments with meeting tables, desk groups and activity areas, including any planned changes to the workspace.
• Total project requirements – Check pack quantities, suspension components, installation costs and current lead times when comparing products.

Ceiling treatment may work alongside wall acoustic panels where several surfaces contribute to reverberation. For a project with a defined acoustic target, obtain an acoustic assessment before finalising the specification.
